Very pretty pose and angle of capture Heather. Interesting how the iron deposits can stain them. Glad that the trumpeters are back in your area.

Thank you, Debra. I'm late making the rounds this year so it was especially nice to see this fellow. Looking forward to seeing this years cygnets soon :)

Nicely captured Heather and nice to hear that the red is not blood.

Thank you, Clifford. I especially like the eye contact he gave me I wasn't expecting to see any swans that day so this was a real treat for me.

So I understand that the red stains are blood. Feel so sory for that nice bird. You caught him very well and he stands out nicely against the water.

Thank you so much for your comment, Yves.. always appreciated. Actually the rusty reddish stains come from iron deposits in the water and soils where they feed in winter. Happy to say there is no injury or blood involved in the situation. I was hoping he'd come closer but a red-winged blackbird started dive bombing him so he retreated.

Description
Came across this male trumpeter swan cruising around while keeping a close eye on all activity near their nesting site. Apparently he came to close for one red-winged blackbird who dive bombed him repeatedly but he took it in stride.
